Stanley Stud Finder Keep Beeping? Solved With Ease

Robert L. Towler Updated on September 1, 2021

Stud finders may beep when it comes across AC wires or if there’s any calibration error. With the proper use of Stanley Stud Sensor, this problem can be solved easily.

Why Does My Stanley Stud Finder Keep Beeping?

A stud finder is a handheld gadget that uses an electronic sensor or magnet to locate the stud placed in the back of a wall. Stud finder sensors usually work to locate the differences in the wall density and to find the stud. Stud finders fall into two fundamental kinds that are magnetic and electric stud finders.

Whenever there’s something unusual behind the wall, the Stanley stud finder keeps beeping. If your stud finder is beeping continuously, there are some things you should consider and take a look at. It’s important to find a stud correctly to locate the perfect place to drive a nail.

Stanley stud finders may beep when they sense AC wires behind the wall. If there’s any difference in the dielectric constant of the wall, the stud finder keeps beeping. A lower reading points to the existence of a stud. Another reason for the beeping can be malfunctioning. The power is disjointed yet the stud finder keeps beeping in that case.

The most common reason can be the calibration error. A calibration error is a variation between measurements indicated by an instrument and those which are real. If your stud finder keeps beeping, start scanning your wall from another location. You can also use DeepScan mode to disable the calibration error aspect.

There are some cautions you should follow to prevent this repeated beeping. Before pressing the power button of the device, make sure the tool is calibrated to the surface properly.

Stanley Stud Finder 150 Says the Whole Wall Stud

Stanley Stud finder 150 is said to be able to detect wood and metal studs up to 1-1/2 inches deep. The AC detection feature detects live wires up to 2 inches below the surface.

Audible beeps and subsequent LEDs point out the readings. This device has a rigid construction and a comfortable grip. But customers have a huge complaint about the unusual readings of this device. In this case, you can place one hand on the wall to create a ground. The finder may say the whole wall stud when the plaster is not grounded accurately.

My Stanley Stud Finder 100 Keeps Saying AC

Stanley Stud Finder 100 is designed to detect live AC wires up to 2-inches in depth. The device is used to detect studs up to 19mm. But most of these device keeps saying AC. If this happens shut the breaker off to the room. By doing this you’ll kill the power.

Now use your stud finder. Place it on the wall properly and see if it beeps. If the stud finder beeps, it means it’s malfunctioning. If the finder doesn’t beep, the stud finder is okay.

My Stud Finder Detect Electrical Wires Over a Large Area

This problem occurs because of the poor adjustment of sensitivity. There are some ways by which you can adjust the sensitivity. The common procedure is to turn on the device and let it open in the free air. This way you can adjust the sensitivity up until the detector diffuses a tone. After that turn it back until the device turns off.

You can also test the detector in any other place where you know about the wire arrangements. If it doesn’t show an accurate result, adjust the sensitivity until it gives a proper result.

One of the easiest ways of solving this problem can be putting pages between the finder and the wall surface. The sensitivity of the finder depends upon the electric field which depends on the distance and the means between you and the wires. The thickness of the page placed in between may depend on the current in the wire and the wall paint.

FAQ
